Dreams and goals start to feel distant if set to the side. Perhaps what you can do seems insignificant, so you wait for one day. When pushed away, it's easy to grow more and more detached. Until one day, you don't recognize them anymore. Committing to small investments over time is hard. It may even feel like they don't leave a dent. But I can assure you it's always better to start. If you start, you'll end up somewhere. If you don't, you'll end up right where you start.
When I doubt that one step will make a difference, I take two small steps. If I think that two steps won’t leave a dent, I take three. Every time I feel like giving up, and that’s just about every day, I make a decision to take just one more step. Remember, always push yourself just a little further than what’s comfortable. Don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone. And make it a habit to take one more step every time you feel like giving up.
Dreams, destiny, purpose and goals, it's easy to think about them. Still many of us live in a world of if and if only. The tendency is to look at them from a comfortable distance. Getting close evokes the same fear felt when approaching a mountain. Yes, the mountain may seem insurmountable at times. In fact, it looks impossible to climb when standing in the valley. True courage only comes after you take the first step. Every step forward takes you one step closer to the goal. The further you get from the valley, the smaller the mountain looks.
Experience is a great teacher, but take caution with a pattern of thinking centered around perfect timing. Such a mindset will set you on a path of going in circles. Fear of making a mistake or not being ready may stop you from moving forward altogether. If you wait to feel 100% ready or until circumstances are perfect, the right moment will never come. Have a big vision, but don't just dream. Focus on what you can do today. The plan will unfold as you move forward. If faithful in the small things, little by little you'll build the courage to step into the big things.
