Have you ever met someone who seems to do it all? She acts, sings, dances, plays the piano and guitar, speaks, writes and cooks. To top off her long list of talents, she’s sweet and a great mom. You name it, she does it all. Oh, how you dream of being as well rounded as Ms. Suzy Does It All. As you awake from your dream, you’re reminded that all you do is write and speak. OK, not so bad, right? In fact, you were actually quite encouraged before this encounter with Ms. Suzy Does It All.
Have you ever felt like you were running on a treadmill with no destination in sight? You couldn’t even remember what you had done that day, let alone the day or week prior. One thing was for sure, you felt exhausted and drained. Life will always be like running on a treadmill without a clear destination. It’s only by pursuing your purpose that you’ll ever feel the satisfaction that a marathon runner feels after completing a race.
At times life throws curveballs when we think we’re about to hit a home run. Discouragement quickly sets in. We’re tempted to step off the field, and we lose the will to try again. Everyone steps up to the plate with the hope of hitting it out of the park. Yet very few hit a home run. Some make it to third base, while even more make it to second and first. None start with a guarantee of success.
Life will never be free of doubt and insecurity. The path to greatness will never be completely straight. Mediocrity will tempt you along the way. The road to greatness is paved with setbacks, doubt and discouragement. There's no growth without struggle. Challenges build true strength. You'll need it when you arrive. After all, greatness isn't about you. It's about what God wants to do through you.
When I doubt that one step will make a difference, I take two small steps. If I think that two steps won’t leave a dent, I take three. Every time I feel like giving up, and that’s just about every day, I make a decision to take just one more step. Remember, always push yourself just a little further than what’s comfortable. Don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone. And make it a habit to take one more step every time you feel like giving up.
